Summer 2020 Newsletter

Greetings Members!

Here’s hoping this update finds you well during this COVID-19 crisis. Our first member newsletter was written on March 1, 2020 - just before the virus exploded world-wide.

The past two and a half months have been devoted keeping abreast of the facts, staying in touch with friends and family and following health and safety guidelines. The Alaska Jewish Museum closed its doors as did the rest of the Alaska Jewish Campus including the Early Learning Center and the Synagogue. Though we are thankful that Alaska has sustained a relatively low infection and death rate, we mourn our many family members, friends and associates around the globe impacted by the pandemic.

Museum Curator Leslie Fried is happy to be back on the job after a lay-off of almost two months. Efforts have focused upon writing grants for both payroll protection and COVID-19 mitigation expenses. Curator Fried has also continued her work on the long-awaited Oral Histories Kiosk Project. Her last recording session was in Juneau just before the crisis hit. It includes Alaska State Senator Jesse Kiehl. Hopefully she will be able collect more stories soon when she can safely travel again next time to Fairbanks and to Seward.

We here at the Museum hope to see you soon. Stay safe!
